Piazza San Marco e passeggiata fino a Rialto - Visita lunga 4h
Si inizia dalle colonne di Todaro e Marco, si esplora la bellezza e l'urbanistica dell'unica piazza di Venezia, si visita il simbolo della Repubblica - il Palazzo Ducale con opere d'arte di Veronese, Tiziano, Bellini, Tintoretto in esso racchiuse, gli appartamenti del Doge, la Sala del maggior Consiglio, le Prigioni passando per il Ponte dei Sospiri - e quello religioso, la Basilica di San Marco Evangelista con gli impareggiabili mosaici Bizantini, i tesori d’arte provenienti dall’Oriente, come la Pala d’Oro e i Cavalli in bronzo dorato posti sulla loggia, parte del Museo Marciano.
Terminato il percorso della Piazza ci si addentra nel Sestiere di Castello e, passando attraverso Campo S.ta Maria Formosa, si arriva in Campo dei SS. Giovanni e Paolo (San Zanipolo), dove si possono ammirare la chiesa domenicana, luogo di famose opere d'arte e di sepoltura dei Dogi, la statua di Bartolomeo Colleoni e la Scuola Grande di San Marco, capolavoro d'arte lombardesca. La visita si conclude con una passeggiata attraverso il Ponte di Rialto e al suo mercato.
Il nord della città - Il sestiere di Canaregio - La Misericordia, Madonna dell'Orto, il Ghetto, S. Alvise - circa 3 ore
Passeggiare per il Sestiere di Cannaregio, fatta eccezione per la Strada Nuova, consente di esplorare la Venezia non turistica: dalla Stazione FS si arriva al Ponte delle Guglie e ci si insinua nelle calli che portano al Ghetto ebraico, proseguendo poi per la splendida chiesa di S. Alvise, gotica con capolavori di Tiepolo; attraverso i lunghi e pacifici canali del Sestiere sii arriva alla tranquilla chiesa dedicata alla Madonna dell’Orto, elegante edificio tardogotico col proprio campo ancora pavimentato in cotto a spina di pesce, uno dei pochi esempi della antica pavimentazione rimasti in città. In questo tempio riposa Jacopo Tintoretto, il pittore della Fede, che larga opera lasciò in tutta la città oltre che in questa chiesa stessa, e che viveva proprio lì vicino. Proseguendo per questo itinerario si può ammirare la Scuola vecchia e nuova della Misericordia, e a questo punto ci si ricongiunge al collegamento classico verso la Piazza San Marco.
La città nascosta - circa 3 ore
Se siete già stati a Venezia e avete già indugiato per calli e campielli, adorerete questo itinerario: una passeggiata per i sestieri di Cannaregio e San Polo Vi permetterà di visitare luoghi decisamente poco noti in città e purtroppo totalmente ignorati dagli itinerari turistici più comuni. Rimarrete affascinati dai gioielli nascosti che Venezia offre al visitatore più attento: angoli deliziosi per la vista e interessantissimi dal punto di vista storico.
Si parte dal famoso mercato di Rialto, ma subito si fugge dalla calca per addentrarsi nello splendido Sestiere di San Polo, che ospita chiese antiche e dai nomi venezianissimi quali San Giacomo dell'Orio e San Zandegolà, campanili inglobati in palazzi (San Boldo), e così via sino ad arrivare alle "inquietanti" rovine dell'antica Chiesa dei Servi.
Per questo tour, oltre a un paio di scarpe comode, prevedete una buona dose di fantasia, elasticità mentale e gran memoria nella macchina fotografica.
From Saint Mark's Square to Rialto Bridge
The Piazza and its continuation, the Piazzetta, constitute the religious and political centre of the city, as expressed in the Basilica, the Ducal Palace, the Library, the Campanile (the old tower rebuilt at the beginning of XX century), the wings of Procuratie, the Clock Tower with the two Moors which strike the hour.
Every building stands in a perfect equipoise of various elements and exquisite refinement of the architectural details that expressed those qualities of serenity and magnificence which so characterised the Republic of the Serenissima: Oriental and Occidental world, for centuries divided despite their common matrix, were brought together in Venice and reborn through the centuries of her history.
Visit starts from the two colums of Saints Theodore and St. Mark the Evangelist and shows the beauty of the symbols of Venice: The Ducal Palace with paintings of Titian, Paolo Veronese, Giovanni Bellini, Jacopo Tintoretto, passing through the Bridge of Sights and the famous prisons; the St. Mark's Basilica, with the incredible cycle of mosaics and treasures from the East such as the Pala d'Oro and the four horses taken from the hippodrome of Costantinople in 1204.
Once ended the visit of the Square, we walk through the Castello area passing Campo S.ta Maria Formosa, ending up in Campo SS. Giovanni e Paolo (San Zanipolo), with the Dominican order monastic church where many Doges have their funeral monuments, the statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni and the former Scuola Grande di San Marco, masterpiece of Renaissance art in Venice, that have been given over to the city hospital together with the Dominican cloisters.
This 4hrs tour ends with a walk through the famous bridge and market of Rialto.
The north side of town - Cannaregio - La Misericordia, Madonna dell'Orto, the Jewish Ghetto, S. Alvise - abt 3hrs
The densely inhabitated sestiere of Cannaregio, built over long narrow islands intersected by parallel canals, has its own particular charm as it allows the visitor to explore a non-touristic Venice: from the Railway Station it is possible to sneack into the Jewish Ghetto, the area where from 1516 a state decree ordered that all Jews be concentrated in this zone of foundries (the word gettar means fusing bombards in Venetian dialect), and to the local church of S. Alvise with its Gothic shape and great Tiepolo paintings inside.
Through peaceful streets appears the gorgeous church of Madonna dell’Orto, elegant late gothic building with unique brick paved square, that gives an idea of how all the city might look before it was all paved in stone; in this templum rests Jacopo Tintoretto, who lived very close to here, and where he left beautiful masterpieces.
The itinerary arrives to the St. Mark's area, walking through particular spots such as the Misericordia Scuola Grande and the church of the Miracoli.
The unknown town - abt 3hrs
If you already visited Venice and browsed around calli and campielli, you will just love this itinerary: an unpredictable walk around Cannaregio and San Polo sestieri will give you the opportunity to discover unknown spots , unfortunately absolutely ignored by most tourists and some venetians.
You will be amazed to see what Venice can offer to the curious visitor: jewels for your sight and incredibly interesting places for who loves art and history.
We will move from the famous Rialto market, but then we will immediatly skip the crowd by entering San Polo quay with its old and very venetian churches such as San Giacomo dell'Orio and San Zandegolà, riuns of towers onto more modern palaces (San Boldo), and so on, up to the strange ruins of the old magnificent Chiesa dei Servi, demolished by Napoleon.
